Pulp Have A New Song After All!
It turns out that Jarvis Cocker has been quite far from the truth when speaking of the lack of new songs signed by Pulp. On the other hand, he can be quickly forgiven, as this Christmas, we got one of the best musical presents in recent years. The song "After You" appeared as a Christmas surprise to all those who took part in Pulp's concert in their hometown of Sheffield. Then, every person in the audience got a slip of paper with a special code, which activated the link for free download. As expected, and probably planned by the band all along, "After You" has quickly spread over the Web, a blessing to the fans' ears. And it's them who explain the mystery of the song. "After You" has been written over a decade ago as a demo version. It has never been officially recorded, published, nor even recorded live. Until last fall, when the band recorded the song, and then handed it over to James Murphy! We would probably never put these names together, but on hearing "After You", Pulp and the frontman of the much-missed LCD Soundsystem seem a match made in heaven!
"After You" is a real gem, not missing the vibe of Pulp's classic hits by a single note. Now, every Pulp lover can say about "After You" what drummer Nick Banks confessed a few years ago: "It's a lost classic".
